Concrete & composite design

Most commercial buildings are not pure steel - they are steel framing acting with reinforced-concrete slabs and members. CivilKit Studio checks reinforced concrete (AS 3600) and composite steel-concrete beams (AS 2327) in the same model, with the design actions pulled from the analysis.

CheckStandardWhereDemand from
RC memberAS 3600a memberM* / N* / V* from the analysis
RC slab stripAS 3600a plateM* from the plate's Wood-Armer moments
Composite beamAS 2327a memberM* from the analysis, span from the member

The RC-member and composite panels sit under the member's "Connection & material checks (optional)" expander (next to the connection panels); the slab panel is in the plate inspector. Their inputs live on the element (m._concrete, m._composite, pl._slab) and ride export / share but are stripped before the solver.

RC member (AS 3600)

Select a member and open Concrete design - RC member (AS 3600). M* / N* / V* are pulled from the analysis; you enter the concrete section (b / D / d, f'c, fsy) and the tension steel (Ast).

Live bars show bending (or the M-N interaction when an axial force is present) and shear, with the governing OK / OVER, the governing-action label, and φMu / φVuc.

RC slab strip (AS 3600)

Plate FE analysis gives you a moment field; turning that into reinforcement is what engineers do by hand from the contour. The slab panel does it in place.

Select a plate and open Slab design - one-way strip (AS 3600). M* is pulled straight from the plate's Wood-Armer design moments (the worst of the four). You set the effective depth, cover, f'c, fsy and Ast/m. Bars cover moment and minimum steel (Cl 8.1.6), with the governing OK / OVER, φMu and Ast,min.

This closes the plate FE-analysis to RC slab reinforcement loop in one place. (Punching shear and slab deflection are richer panels planned for later.)

Composite beam (AS 2327)

A steel beam acting compositely with a concrete slab through shear studs. Select a member and open Composite beam (AS 2327). The steel dimensions come from the member's section, the span from its length, and M* from the analysis; you set the beam spacing, slab depth, f'c and stud count.

Bars cover the moment capacity (φMbv) and the shear studs, with the governing OK / OVER, φMbv with the degree of shear connection η, and the studs required vs provided.

Into the report

Each of these lands in the PDF report as its own section (RC members, RC slabs, composite beams), shown only when present and re-run at print time. A mixed steel + concrete model produces a single submittable PDF covering steel members, connections, RC members, RC slabs and composite beams.

Verify before professional use

These checks use simplifying assumptions and indicative material values. Confirm concrete grade, reinforcement detailing, cover, durability and the governing load combination against AS 3600 / AS 2327 before relying on them.
